Some people can pick up a guitar, and learn to play it on their own. In fact, some big-name guitarists, with whom you may be familiar, have done just that. But, this isn't a good solution for everybody. Most people need someone to help them learn. Fortunately, there are plenty of on-line sites where you'll find acoustic guitar lessons.

For an absolute beginner, learning to play can be just a tad bit discouraging. Your fingers get sore and your wrist starts to cramp. However, sticking with it is key, even if you can only stand to practice for mere minutes per day. After a while, your fingers will become tough and your wrist muscles will become used to being used in ways in which they were never meant to be used.

You'll find tutorials in many different formats. You can buy books and DVDs from either on-line sources or at your local musical instrument store.

There are many websites that offer either monthly or annual subscriptions, and then allow you to download their videos to your computer's hard drive. (In the long run, this may be more economical than buying DVDs.)

And, at least one website offers video tutorials completely free. (Its owner asks that you make a donation if you can afford it, and also offers DVDs and CDs for sale.)

All of these tutorials offer different teaching methods at different levels of proficiency. Some websites specialize in teaching a specific genre of music, such as the blues, and are a one-person operation. At least one site has tutorials for all different types of music, but its instructor only teaches the finger-picking method. Others sites have numerous instructors, and provide tutorials on many different playing methods and music genres.

Experts advise that you make a decision concerning which playing style you desire to learn, and stick with that. After you've decided, you'll discover that it's easier to decide which tutorial websites or DVDs that you'd like to use.

Your favorite search engine can help you locate acoustic guitar lessons.
