When someone dies, we have a choice. We can either mourn their passing or celebrate their life. There are more and more people who are moving toward the celebration of life. This call for something a little different and you need to be creative with your funeral ideas.
Rather than just have a casket and flowers, why not enjoy the funeral and do it up the way the person would have wanted. Those who are still alive can make things easier on loved ones by designing their own funeral and adding it to their will so everything will be clear.
The memorial is a good place to start. Will the deceased be buried in a regular casket? Why not look into custom built boxes in the shape of something that the deceased loved? A musician might like a piano casket, for example, or a guitar, depending on his musical area of expertise. These will have to be planned ahead, but they are often worth waiting for.
In some areas of the world, the bodies of loved ones are being displayed in unique manners. Some stand, others are hunched over bikes and in a variety of positions. You'll need to find a funeral home willing to get into this area, however. It's not exactly normal, but that's not what you're going for, after all.
The music that is selected should also reflect the deceased one's preferences. You can choose donations instead of flowers and food doesn't have to be the usual cucumber and cheese sandwiches. Look at serving something more appropriate, like hamburgers or cake. Children could have cake and a favorite ice cream at their funeral, for example.
When it comes time to say goodbye, be creative with your funeral ideas and enjoy life. It's the only one we get.
